Kazakhstan and Germany are set to deepen their economic cooperation following discussions between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on September 29. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in investment, infrastructure, industry, and transport, with both leaders expressing a commitment to further strengthening ties.
President Tokayev emphasized Germany’s role as Kazakhstan’s key strategic partner in Europe during the meeting, noting the progress made in bilateral relations over the past 30 years. A major outcome of the discussions was the proposal to establish a Kazakhstan-Germany Investment and Financial Platform aimed at supporting joint projects and facilitating investment between the two nations.
To advance economic cooperation, Tokayev engaged with German business leaders, exploring opportunities in transport and logistics, industrial localization, engineering, metallurgy, and waste processing. A significant aspect of these discussions was the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, alongside plans to modernize railway infrastructure and expand manufacturing capabilities within Kazakhstan.
Both countries are also exploring potential avenues for German companies to participate in industrial and infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan, thereby gaining greater access to the broader Central Asian market. This initiative is seen as a strategic move to bolster economic ties and foster mutual growth.
The meeting marks a pivotal step in fortifying the economic relationship between Kazakhstan and Germany, setting the stage for increased collaboration in key sectors and highlighting the potential for future joint ventures and investment opportunities.
