Hungary’s dominance in European water polo has been reaffirmed, as it tops the latest European Aquatics rankings for men’s teams while securing the second position in the women’s category. These rankings evaluate the performances of national teams over a span of three years, considering both senior and youth tournaments.
The Hungarian men’s team ascended to the top by consistently placing among the top six in all eight competitions under consideration. Their noteworthy performances include clinching silver medals at the European Championship held in Belgrade and the U16 European Championship in Istanbul. Following Hungary in the men’s rankings are Serbia, the reigning European champions, in second place and Spain in third.
On the women’s side, the Netherlands lead the rankings after successfully defending their European title in Funchal. Hungary’s women’s team follows closely in second place, with Spain taking the third spot. This strong performance by the Hungarian teams underscores their prowess in the sport.
In addition to the individual rankings, European Aquatics has also released a combined ranking that encompasses both men’s and women’s teams. Here, Hungary maintains its lead, highlighting its overall strength in water polo. Spain and Greece complete the top three in the combined standings, reflecting the competitive landscape of the sport across Europe.
