Orbán Meets White House and State Department Officials on U.S. Visit

-

Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently visited the United States, where he engaged in high-level discussions at the White House and the U.S. Department of State. During a press conference held in Budapest, Orbán revealed that the primary goal of his visit was to participate in official meetings in Washington. However, he chose not to disclose the identities of the officials he met with or the subjects of their discussions. The timing of these meetings coincided with the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, although no formal details have been provided.

In addition to his official engagements, Orbán attended a FIFA World Cup match during his trip. He clarified that the costs associated with his travel and World Cup tickets were covered privately. Adding a lighthearted note, he remarked that attending the tournament was financially manageable, given that it only occurs every four years.

Orbán is anticipated to elaborate further on his U.S. visit in an upcoming speech at the Bálványos Summer Camp in Romania. This visit takes place against the backdrop of escalating political tensions within Hungary. Orbán has been vocal in accusing the current Hungarian government of eroding democratic institutions. Meanwhile, several European political leaders have voiced their concerns about Hungary’s political climate and its adherence to the rule of law.

To date, the Hungarian government has not issued any public response to these specific allegations. The situation highlights a period of uncertainty and scrutiny regarding Hungary’s internal political dynamics and its interactions on the international stage.
