Orbán Pledges Defiance Amid Potential Removal of Hungary’s President

-

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has asserted Hungary’s right to resist any attempt to forcibly remove the country’s president. This declaration follows the final parliamentary vote on the 17th Amendment to the Fundamental Law. Orbán emphasized that his party would not acknowledge the authority of a president who assumes office through what he considers unlawful means.

Orbán’s statement, shared on social media, underscored his commitment to opposing any unconstitutional efforts to oust the head of state. He argued that any decisions made by such an unlawfully appointed president would lack legitimacy, reinforcing his party’s stance against any such political maneuvers.

The Prime Minister also cautioned that targeting the presidency could set a worrisome precedent. He suggested that similar tactics could potentially be used against other public figures, critics, or business owners, thereby expanding the scope of political instability in Hungary.

These remarks have surfaced in the wake of heightened political tensions following the parliamentary vote on the constitutional amendment. Orbán’s comments reflect the deepening divide within Hungary’s political landscape as debates over constitutional authority and legitimacy continue.
